How to get a file
- Ancestry: open your tree, choose Tree Settings, then Export tree, and download the file when it’s ready (if it arrives as a .zip, extract the .ged file first).
- FamilySearch: the Family Tree on the website doesn’t offer a direct GEDCOM export. Use a desktop program that syncs with FamilySearch (such as RootsMagic or Ancestral Quest), then export GEDCOM from there.
- MyHeritage: Family tree → Manage trees → Export to GEDCOM.
- Geni: open your profile or a close relative’s, then choose Actions → Export GEDCOM.
- RootsMagic: Files → Export Data → GEDCOM File.
- Family Tree Maker: File → Export, then choose GEDCOM as the file type.
- Gramps: Family Trees → Export, then choose GEDCOM as the format.
- WikiTree: see WikiTree’s help pages on GEDCOM export.
